We promise to always be upfront about costs.

Insurance

“In-nework insurance”

We’re an “in-network” provider for most health insurance plans. If your plan requires you to pay a copay or deductible, you’ll pay that directly to us and then we’ll bill the rest directly to your insurer. Please call (651-321-1515) or send us an email (help@bothsidesmn.com) so we can confirm.

“Out-of-network insurance” (and HSA)

If we’re “out-of-network” with your insurer or if want to use your Health Savings Account, you’ll self-pay for your therapy sessions and we’ll provide you with records you can submit to your insurance company or plan administrator.

In-network = we work with your insurer

Most health insurance plans require you to pay a portion of the costs - a copay and/or a deductible. You’ll pay that portion directly to us.

We want to avoid surprises, so our online intake form asks for your insurance details - we’ll contact your insurance company before your first session to confirm copays and/or deductibles and communicate that to you.

Self-Pay

If you don’t have health insurance (or don’t want to use it), you can pay out-of-pocket

Self-pay offers complete privacy

Health insurance requires a medical diagnosis - some clients don’t want that diagnosis to become part of their medical record as a pre-existing condition.

If you pay out-of-pocket, your therapy records aren’t shared with insurers.

Self-pay offers couples and families greater flexibility

Health insurance identifies one person as the “patient” - and that person must be present at all therapy sessions. For families and couples, it can be sometimes be helpful to have a session with only one member of a couple/family - and that’s where the flexibility of self-pay is useful.

Insurance or Self-Pay - it’s your call

With respect to payment, it’s completely up to you.

Our goal is for you to understand how the different options work and then for you to make the decision that works best for you.

Sliding Scale

We are committed to serving uninsured/underinsured clients.

We allocate 20% of our appointments for uninsured/underinsured clients. Services are identical, but fees are based on household income (that’s the “sliding scale”).

If we don’t currently have any sliding-scale availability, we’ll help you connect with other resources.

How does the sliding scale work?

Your session fee is based on your household income, using a graduated scale (if your income is lower, your fee is lower).

We ask for your honesty in disclosing your household income - and ask you to keep us posted if any changes occur.
